Abstract

This paper creates a systematic and comprehensive model for describing basic relations, which probably uses libido (sex) as drive.

This is achieved by describing an until now ignored significant difference between affects and feelings.

Furthermore the paper categorizes relationships into two types, consonant and dissonant, depending on the influence of, respectively, Olds pleasure center nucleus accumbens and Colemans anxiety center  nucleus amygdala. Since sexdrive (hypothalamus) works homeostatically the argument is, that the affects as well follow a hormone-based sequence which is common to both animals and humans.

From this feelings are deduced. These are seen as being object related cognitive, and thereby dependent on humans ability to generate symbolic representations.

Both if the homeostatic sequence is interrupted and if a cognitive conceptual world becomes solipsistic with lack of empathy, the stasis results in varying degrees of mental illness, starting as neurotic behavior and the end result being a locked stasis at the psychoses.

If the reasoning of the paper is accepted, the following is achieved: A revised definition of humans as not only thinking but also social beings with empathy as a fundamental capacity, which in turn leads to a revised definition of psychosis as defined by DCI 10.

The suggested model has the side effect of contributing to the discussion on whether Breivik is mentally ill or not.

This article is presented in the hope that the views here put forward are seen as argumentatively well founded in order to form a background for the further research necessary into the model suggested.
